How long is that?
Activity: Measure and estimate length, width, and height in meters!
Everything around us is measurable, from the length of a window, the width of a desk, and the height of a person. Measuring is important in daily life as it would help people understand better how things fit together and where things belong. It is also crucial for the children to understand how precise measurement is taken and its importance in real life.
In this activity, the children were given measuring tapes and were asked to measure different objects around them; from windows, school bags, desks, tables, water bottles, and even themselves. The children had lots of fun going around the school measuring different items; this activity helped students understand the metric unit - meters. This in turn helps to develop benchmarks for units and enhances familiarity with important units.
This activity also helps the children on deeper levels; to use and understand the system of whole numbers, and to understand written symbolism for reading a measuring tool. This also develops their cognitive function and improves their psychomotor skills.
Let’s all measure together!
